placenta encapsulation

MOTHER NATURE’S GIFT FOR POSTPARTUM WELLNESS

We offer safe and affordable encapsulation services to aid in your postpartum recovery.

At BIRTHWISE, we encapsulate using The Gentle Method. Our Placenta Specialist steams and dehydrates the placenta and encapsulates it into pill form.

Benefits of Placenta Encapsulation
1. Hormonal Balance: The placenta contains hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone, which can help regulate hormonal fluctuations during the postpartum period. By consuming placenta capsules, women may experience improved mood stability, reduced symptoms of postpartum depression and baby blues, and increased energy levels.
2. Enhanced Recovery: The high nutrient content of the placenta, including iron, vitamins B6 and B12, and minerals like zinc and magnesium, can support the body's recovery after childbirth. These nutrients may help replenish depleted stores, strengthen the immune system, and aid in tissue repair, ultimately promoting a faster and smoother postpartum recovery.
3. Increased Breast Milk Supply: Many women who have consumed placenta capsules report an increase in their breast milk supply. It is believed that the hormonal balance achieved through placenta encapsulation can stimulate the production of prolactin, the hormone responsible for milk production.
4. Natural Pain Relief: The placenta contains natural pain-relieving compounds, including oxytocin, which can help alleviate pain and promote relaxation during the early postpartum phase. By ingesting placenta capsules, women may experience a reduction in post-birth discomfort and pain, such as uterine cramping. 5. Reduced Postpartum Bleeding: Due to the hormone balance and nutrient absorption, many women find that they experience decreased bleeding time and lesser bleeding overall.

Description of Placenta Encapsulation
Placenta encapsulation involves a multi-step process to transform the placenta into capsules for consumption. After birth, the placenta is safely collected by Carli, our trained specialist. We always follow strict protocols to ensure the placenta's cleanliness and integrity.
Once collected, the placenta is thoroughly cleaned, often using warm water and organic solutions to remove any impurities. After cleaning, the placenta is steamed gently with ginger and lemon to prepare it for dehydration. Steaming is believed to enhance the placenta's healing properties and eliminate any harmful bacteria.
The steamed placenta is then thinly sliced and dehydrated at a low temperature over a period of several hours using a dehydrator. This step removes moisture from the placenta while preserving its nutrients. Once dried, the placenta is ground into a fine powder.
Finally, the powdered placenta is encapsulated using capsules. The capsules are stored in a cool, dry place and can be consumed by the postpartum woman according to the recommended dosage.

Meet Your Encapsulation Specialist

Carli Sumwalt

Hello! Like many, I found my passion after the birth of my first daughter in 2015. After that, I took my first doula training and started working within my community. Since then, we have welcomed our second daughter in 2019 at our local birth center and most recently our son in 2023 in our home. Being able to provide support and knowledge to families in this season is what fuels my passion. I am committed to continuing my education to serve families and offer more services to the community. I am looking forward to connecting with more families on their journey.
